LouDiamond 1 #2 March 12, 2007 You can do that with Paralog. There is also a small program(pearl?) that someone else has written that was posted in the forums awhile back. A search should bring it up."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
mbondvegas 0 #3 March 12, 2007 Paralog with...a Garmin Fortrex?? Is there a manual/guide that shows how this is done?? Thanks!- - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
LouDiamond 1 #4 March 12, 2007 Yes, go to PARALOG and go to the online manual(link on home page). From there, click on the export jump log link. Instructions on how to do the overlay to include and example can be seen on that page."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
mccordia 73 #5 March 12, 2007 Just send Costyn a PM or email, he is the one that made that video. And I think he also made the code publicly available..JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Costyn 0 #7 March 12, 2007 Seeing as it was my video, I'll reply: Hardware: - Bird-Man S6 - Sony PC105e - Garmin ForeTrex 201 Software: - Any tool that can download trackpoints from aforementioned ForeTrex 201 and save it in GPX format - A little script that I wrote in Perl (not pearl, hehe). - VirtualDub or MPlayer to overlay the subtitles on the video (explained a bit better on the link below). The Perl script is available to anyone to use here: http://airlabs.octanox.net/cgi-bin/gps-srt.cgi It's not very userfriendly nor robust. It will probably break; use at your own risk. Hehe. I should get round to making it better one of these days. If you have a valid GPX file that isn't working, please please please send it to me so I can make the script more compatible. mbondvegas 0 #10 March 13, 2007 I still have not received it...it's been a slow process. Supposedly...it was shipped last Tuesday...but it has not yet arrived. I've been racing home everyday to check the door. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

frost 1 #12 August 5, 2010 Hi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q3vL7vlPss&feature=player_embedded It's been over three years since this thread was originally posted, but the video above made me want to play with the data video overlay... Do you (or anyone else) still have that Perl script available? Or perhaps someone has come up with a better technique since then? Thanks!
Costyn 0 #13 August 5, 2010 Hi, Guillaume Richard took my code and integrated it into various standalone binaries, which you can download on his site here: http://larve.free.fr/gpx2srt/Site/gpx2srt.html It's not exactly an easy process but I think it should all work. Paralog (www.paralog.net) can do the same thing too. It's a lot easier than using gpx2srt but Paralog is not free. Of course Paralog does a lot of other cool stuff too... So it depends on how nerdy you are.. If you just want to get quick results or aren't very technically inclined, use Paralog, otherwise you might give the gpx2srt script a try. Good luck. vidiot 0 #14 August 6, 2010 Although I might be hurting my own business here : the latest version of GpsBabel supports the SubRip (.srt)format. Klaus My Logbook
bofh 0 #15 August 6, 2010 Quote Do you (or anyone else) still have that Perl script available? Or perhaps someone has come up with a better technique since then? Thanks! I've made a little program for OS X that produced this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRvy66PRoiY My program takes a GPX file and produces a quicktime video of the altimeter. I then used iMovie to blend it into the movie. iMovie sucks at this, some transitions stop working etc. This video only produced one frame per second for the altimeter. It would be rather easy to make more frames per second to have a smoother dial. Since I can't use Photoshop/GIMP the image of the altimeter wasn't so good looking either... I was also going to make a Grand Theft Auto style map, but the license requirements for the map data prevents that in many cases... Google and Microsoft requires that their logo is shown in the image, Open Street Map requires that the movie is shared with a CC-Share-Alike license. So I kind of lost interest in it, but perhaps after OSM changes their licensing I'll finish that.
tr4racer 0 #16 January 13, 2011 You can use DashWare (www.DashWare.net) to do this. DashWare can take video and overlay text, and gauges on top of the video. Any device that outputs gpx or nmea will work.
bofh 0 #17 January 13, 2011 Nice! Is it Windows only, or is there a version for OS X too?
tr4racer 0 #18 January 13, 2011 It is a windows only, but many people use vmware or similar to use it on MacOS.
